MASSAGE, THE ANCIENT HEALING TECHNIQUE

Massage, an ancient touch of hands, divine healing skill and therapy as old as humanity alone.

The word massage comes from the Arabic word of “masa” which means touching, pressing, tapping. Potions from traditional Chinese medicine 3000 years before the new age and Chinese called it Nei Jing and applied it to diseases of the locomotoive system. The Japanese developed a shiatsu technique or a finger pressure to perform a certain acupressure. The Indian book Ajur Veda written 1800 years before the new age, describes the massage as rubbing and shampooing that they recommend for heal the body.

They used it in Egypt, Persia, Mesopotamia, the countries of the former old world. Romans and Greeks also practiced massage. Hippocrates said that all therapists must know the massage and his disciple Herodonas used it for the treatment of stretch marks and this is actually the first known therapeutic massage. The Romans used it for military and sporting purposes. The first record of the sports massage comes from the 4th century Roman by hte name of Oribasius.

In the modern age Per Henrik Ling from Sweden, combined the knowledge of the traditional Chinese massage with the needs of a modern man and created a Swedish massage. He is considered as the founder of kinesiotherapy and a modern massage that has flourished in the 19th century. During this period, Russian physician Isidora Zabludovski was also well known, and she is considered as the founder of modern therapeutic massage.

By applying it to certain parts of the body, harmonization of psychic functions and states is achieved. It also represents an excellent prevention of infections, due to improved blood flow between tissue and organs.
